Consulting & Engineering

We continuously invest in research and development, ensuring we stay at the forefront of technological advancements.

Delivering insights with deep design & analytical expertise

Our full spectrum of services includes engineering and consulting. Our combination of subsea engineering and geosciences capabilities means we can develop unique equipment in-house that is customized for our clients’ needs - offshore, nearshore and onshore. It means we can generate and evaluate high-quality data, ensuring our investigations are well-designed and deliver accurate, comprehensive insights.

Laboratory Testing

Our ISO-certified and UKAS accredited geotechnical testing laboratory in Northern Ireland affords us the comfort of being able to test samples in-house without relying on others. As the quality and integrity of samples are critical, being able to react quickly to testing needs mitigates against sample deterioration, thus improving the validity of the data.

  • Testing in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017
  • Dual accreditation to BS1377 and BS EN ISO 17892 standards
  • Results issued as standard in AGS data format.

Engineering

Unlike most geosciences businesses, our teams include dozens of subsea engineers who are practiced at building and modifying subsea vehicles and control systems - and who bring advanced expertise in automation, artificial intelligence and machine learning. This enables us to build custom tools and respond even more quickly and safely when problems inevitably arise while conducting investigations 2,000 meters under water.

Alongside our site-investigation services, we tap a team of geotechnical engineers and scientists to provide geotechnical reporting both on-site and after further interpretation and testing. Based on information collected from our ground investigations, we have provided a range of consulting including:

  • Shallow foundation design
  • Assessments of piles
  • Requirement and feasibility of ground improvement solutions
  • Infiltration drainage systems
  • Pavements and earthworks
  • Formation inspections
  • Interpretation of in-situ test results

Data Processing & Reporting

Our services encompass a comprehensive range of data management solutions. We provide in-field data deliverables, which include preliminary borehole logs, Cone Penetration Test (CPT) plots, and offshore laboratory data.

Our team is adept at processing and quality assurance of both offshore and onshore data, ensuring the highest level of accuracy and reliability. Furthermore, we specialize in thecreation of various reports such as Field Reports, Factual Reports, Engineering Parameters Reports, and Geohazard Reports. We also develop Ground Models that provide detailed 3D model of the subsurface conditions.

Glasgow Engineering

Shawfield Glasgow Deep Mixing Ground Improvement

Our teams were appointed by contractor Newton Ground Engineering to conduct a soil mix study and to stabilize a 170-meter riverbank failure in Glasgow, Scotland.

The scope of work included:

  • A pre-construction ground investigation comprising trial pits and boreholes to obtain representative samples for a soil mix study (under BDA Land Classification RED site conditions)
  • Specification and assessment of a deep mixing laboratory study, investigating various soil mix designs
  • Specification and assessment of a deep mixing field trial - comprising testing and assessment of deep mix grab samples - to verify the chosen soil mix design; methods adopted were Geobor S rotary coring of columns and complementary adjacent CPTs
  • Review of CQA records and completion of CQA testing (multiple visits); comprising testing and assessment deep mix grab samples, Geobor S coring of columns and CPTs through columns
  • Temporary works design assessments of the river bank cuttings and temporary working platforms to enable deep mixing ground stabilization
